The Topic: AARP and Western Michigan University embarked on a 9-month study to discover the health disparities that exist in the State of Michigan. Jennifer Feuerstein will share the key findings of the study; what the recommended calls to action are to reduce these disparities; and how a new law on tele-health will change the future of health care.
Jennifer Feuerstein is a community organizer, activist, public speaker, and writer on issues related to older adults. She is the Associate State Director for AARP Michigan and a Crew Member for WOTV 4 as the on-air expert for the "encore years". Her work involves helping older adults live their best lives and advocating on their behalf. She travels across the state of Michigan engaging the 1.4 million AARP members to help them to age well and not fear being part of the 50+ club.

Jayson L. Dibble, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Hope College, Holland, Mich. He teaches about and researches relationship communication, persuasion, social science research methods, and humor. His research has been featured in various outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic Monthly, TIME, and The Washington Post, and he has long been involved with Gilda's LaughFest, where he speaks about humor and health.

COA member Catherine Jacobs specializes in estate planning, elder law, and Medicaid planning. COA member Laura Morris specializes in family disputes involving inheritances, wills, trusts, guardianship, conservatorship, and is a trained mediator.

We will then hear from Laura Foerster (Certified Long Term Care Ombudsman) and Kaye Scholle, (MSW Certified Long Term Care Ombudsman) who will provide an overview of their role in advocating for residents primarily in Long Term Care facilities with a focus to improve the Long Term Care system, speaking for passage of laws, regulations and policies.

Annette Crocker RN has been a nurse for 30 years. She has an extensive critical care nursing background. Since 2010 she has been the Practice Manager at Michigan Holistic Health. The focus of the practice is Cannabis education and qualifying patients for the Michigan Medical Marijuana Program. Annette is a member of the American Cannabis Nurses Association. She is also a board member and treasurer for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws in Michigan. She opened My Hemp Solutions in October 2017. MHS is a retail and educational space for Hemp CBD.

Dr. Crocker is the owner and operator of Michigan Holistic Health since 2009. He is a Board Certified Interventional Radiologist with a history of pain management and palliative care. He sits on Michigan’s Medical Marijuana Review Panel for new qualifying conditions and is a board member for the Michigan chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. He has served as a medical marijuana expert in several court cases in Michigan and Illinois and has lectured extensively to medical professionals, community leaders and patient groups. He recently created his own product line of Hemp CBD products.

Join Us for Laughter Yoga and learn about Senior Sing A-Long.
Angela Essick Dykes LPC will be leading us in Laughter Yoga! This is not your typical yoga class. Expect to stretch your laugh muscles. Laughter Yoga is a unique concept based on the principle of “acting happiness” – tell your body what to do and your mind will follow. 

We will also hear from Senior Sing A-long, whose mission is revitalizing the minds and spirits of people in long-term care communities using music and other live arts. The nonprofit is an important part of a paradigm shift in care for West Michigan seniors a key partner in the movement away from simple caregiving toward providing an enriched living experience for all seniors, especially those with dementia.
